Edinburg, Texas (Nov. 3, 2017) – The Edinburg Fire Department announces the line-up for the 2017 Edinburg Fire Prevention Festival happening Saturday, Nov. 3 at the all new H-E-B Park.

The festival entitled “Edinburg Fire Stoppers Festival,” is part of a national observation to increase awareness about fire prevention.

National Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire that killed more than 250 people on October 8-9 in 1871, destroyed some 17,400 buildings, and burned an estimated 2,000 acres.

The fire service has grown tremendously since then, however, fire departments throughout the country like the Edinburg Fire Department teach prevention as a means to ensure that residents practice safety in everything they do.

The event will kick-off with a fire truck caravan at 3 p.m. starting at the intersection of Mon Mack Road and Sprague Street, make its way around town, and end in front of  H-E-B Park located at 1616 S. Raul Longoria Road where the festival will take place.

The festival includes fun activities for children like the fire safety bounce house, Fire Safety Clowns, the Fire Safety House, as well as, four (4) Tejano, Norteno, and Country Music acts that will take the stage as follows:

4:00 – 5:00 p.m.  Midnight Run (Country)

5:30 – 6:30 p.m.  Lucky Joe (Tejano)

7:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Alianza 5 (Norteno)

8:30 – 10    p.m.  Michael Salgado (Tejano)

Those in attendance can also enjoy delicious food and live demonstrations on how to: prevent cooking fires, check smoke detectors, and change smoke detector batteries.  Edinburg Fire Chief Shawn Snider says this free event is put together with the community in mind. “We want the community to know that we’re here for them and not just to respond to fires.  Through live demonstrations like the ones we will be doing on-site, really do make a difference because we show them that using prevention methods can and do work. And just as importantly, we demonstrate how fast fires spread and that’s why it’s important to call 9-1-1.”

This year the event also includes the Heart of America Carnival, which will be open through Sunday.
