EDINBURG, TEXAS (July 9, 2018) – The City of Edinburg will host the Fifth Annual Fridafest on Saturday, July 21 at the Edinburg City Hall Courtyard from 5-11 p.m.

The annual festival celebrates the life of renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and will feature live music, artists, food vendors, children’s activities, Frida-inspired art and a Frida and Diego look-a-like contest.

This year Fridafest will feature the theatrical performance, “Buscando a Frida – An Homage to Frida Kahlo,” performed by the Lucia Macias Theatre Company. The play will feature an exhibit of representations of Frida’s paintings by artist Jose Cano.

For its fifth anniversary, FridaFest will incorporate a Frida Procession that will begin at the corner of McIntyre and 10th St. down to City Hall Courtyard.  Before the start of the procession, the festival will attempt to set a record for the “Largest gathering of people dressed as Frida Kahlo” followed by a March of Empowerment in celebration of womanhood.

To sign up for the procession visit the Eventbrite event page.

Fridafest will kick off at 5 p.m. with the Frida Empowerment Panel at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium located at 415 W. University Drive. The Frida Empowerment Panel brings together strong women from the community to inspire the new generations of young women and girls, and to highlight and celebrate their strengths and accomplishments.
